Dear social media managers, you’re doing it all wrong.

In 2018 I started my digital marketing agency specializing in social media management and growth. In 2021, 8 businesses trusted us with their platforms with the average client worth $750 per month.

A team helped with the whole process and we had great success with growth and telling the story of a business through Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest and Youtube.

There was one question always came up and haunted me in my sleep.

“What’s the ROI for social media?”

It’s a question that has a lot of answers but the answer that involves dollar bills would take complex explaining.

You see, when we run digital campaigns, CPC, ROI, LTV and so many more “easy calculations” are at our fingertips at all times to keep our clients comfortable in knowing we were bringing in more money than they were paying us.

4x is what we reach for when it comes to those campaigns but how do we achieve that goal for social media?

Yes the value for social media can be in the audience and tracking growth and online sales can be done but selling through organic posts is incredibly difficult no matter what your skill set is.

So at the beginning of 2021, I started writing a new business model.

One where I could show those business owners how to run their platforms rather than pay us to do it.

The emphasis was on efficiency.

My key focus was around this question :

“How can a business owner increase content put out while decreasing time spent working on it?”

One of the biggest reasons why we were contracted out so much was to save time.

But what if there was a solution to that problem?

Would those business owners choose to learn the efficient ways of social media and save that $750 per month?

After all, the reason why I became a business owner was to deliver as much value as possible!

It took me three whole months to come up with a new business model with the net margins above 87%. This is a goal I reach for in every model and is so crucial to growth and developing your budget.

I then sent out a survey to all 8 clients to see how many of them would be interested in learning an efficient growth strategy to use rather than contract me out.

6/8 said they would prefer to save the money!

The other two were larger businesses who had a bigger budget and wanted to keep me and my team.

So I started by consulting two businesses to get proof of concept.

SUCCESS!

In three months, they went from paying my company every month and not knowing anything about social media to becoming experts in their industry and doing everything in house!

I was so happy and proud to see the results.

So many people solely focus on the money and what’s in it for them but don’t think about the value for the customer.

I believe in giving it your all and the reward will come.

This whole process also made me realize that the path of becoming a social media manager is possible but extremely difficult and especially stressful.

Watching small business owners blossom and become marketing experts is the best reward possible!
